Hands-on with the Galaxy S25 Edge: It's as thin as it is beautiful

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has just been made official, and we were able to get our hands on it at an event organized by Samsung in Paris. It was an opportunity to get a first impression of this new form factor.

First point: the handling is very pleasant. It wasn't so much the thickness as the weight that pleasantly surprised us. At 162g, the Galaxy S25 Edge made our brains stutter for a few seconds. Did we have a toy in our hands or a real smartphone?

Very quickly, the finishes assure us that we have a high-end smartphone in our hands. The wow factor of the phone is not only due to its weight and its thinness of 5.8mm, we also have here a very well-designed device, with a screen with thin borders, without an unsightly chin towards the bottom, with flat titanium edges, although tiny, and a smooth glass back.

Contained heating?

During the handling, we were able to quickly install a benchmark on one of the smartphones in order to offer a beginning of an answer to a concern that often arises around ultra-thin smartphones: how do they manage the heat?

We'll be able to answer this question further in our full review of the device and the 01lab protocols, but until then, launched on Antutu10, the GalaxyS25 Edge didn't turn into a hot water bottle. It went up to 43.5°C with an amplitude of around ten degrees outdoors, which seems reasonable. The Galaxy S25 Edge therefore seems to be able to harness the power of its Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

Will it be worth the price?

The whole question is: is it worth 1249 euros, the price at which the base model is sold in 12 + 256GB. At first glance, it seems quite clear that if you are a bit tech-savvy, and particularly into photography, you should give it a miss. The lack of a telephoto lens at such a price is a deal-breaker.

But with this product, Samsung is clearly not targeting tech-savvy people. The Seoul-based company is focusing more on the status purchase strategy, the smartphone that gets noticed, that gets people talking. From this point of view, the bet seems very successful to us.
