Finally! After a very long wait, HBO has finally revealed the names of the main trio of the new adaptation of the Harry Potter cycle commissioned by Warner Bros. Discovery. We tell you everything!
Harry Potter: the new cast revealed
In order to get out of the financial rut, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced its intention to exploit its most lucrative licenses: Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, DC Comics and Harry Potter. Despite writer J.K. Rowling's bad reputation over the past decade for her transphobic comments, the Hollywood major has officially asked its network HBO to produce a seven-season series adapting the literary cycle that enjoyed phenomenal success during the 2000s and 2010s.
Obviously, the task is difficult, especially since the eight films produced between 2001 and 2011 have remained in the memories of fans and retain a delicious scent of nostalgia. For several months, HBO and Warner have been communicating about the casting, which is far from unanimous. Indeed, the choice to entrust the role of Severus Snape to the actor Paapa Essiedu - originally from Ghana - and that of Albus Dumbledore to the American John Lithgow - thus contravening one of the essential rules of the saga - has caused a lot of ink to flow.
After announcing the actors chosen to play Minerva McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid and Professor Quirrell, HBO has finally lifted the veil on the trio of young actors responsible for playing Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. After 30,000 auditions, the characters will be played respectively by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stauton and Alastair Stout. A group photo was also released to accompany the announcement.
The series directed by Francesca Gardiner will finally be able to start filming. A few days ago, we discovered photos of part of the sets financed for the modest sum of one billion dollars. We can't wait to see the three young wizards at work! And you, what do you think of the new cast? Don't hesitate to tell us in the comments section.
