Hogwarts Legacy: Harry Potter sequel gets underway, but with some less than reassuring news?

Hogwarts Legacy: Harry Potter sequel gets underway, but with some less than reassuring news?

Since the end of last year, we've known that Warner Bros. Games is working on Hogwarts Legacy 2, and it's even a priority for the publisher. The game has even entered the active development phase, proving that things are moving relatively quickly for the game. This sequel is also said to be closely linked to the Harry Potter series on HBO.

While we were expecting a Definitive Edition this year with single-player DLC and content, Warner Bros. Games has decided to cancel the project to focus on the sequel. Today, we have the right to new details, but this does not allow us to be reassured, on the contrary.

Hogwarts Legacy 2: halfway with a service game?

Hogwarts Legacy: Harry Potter sequel gets underway, but with some less than reassuring news?

According to a recent job offer on the site of Avalanche Software (the game developers), it appears that Hogwarts Legacy 2 may integrate game-as-a-service elements to provide online features and multiplayer game modes. A job posting states that Avalanche is looking for people for "story integrations into multiplayer systems". The offer specifies that the objective would be to propose "some narrative elements of the game that would be told through these multiplayer elements.".

In the keywords of the job offer, we can find the elements "PvP", "matchmaking" and "game-as-a-service". Hogwarts Legacy 2 would therefore not only be a single-player game, but also an online multiplayer game. This is not necessarily reassuring when we know that the publisher's last service games have not worked at all (like a certain Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League).

We now hope that Warner Bros. Games will not choose to offer a game like Suicide Squad and that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be divided into a single-player part and an online part. In any case, this means that the development of the game will be split in two with, inevitably, fewer resources allocated to the single-player part.

For the moment, it is far too early to draw conclusions and it is preferable to wait for an official communication from the publisher and developers to know their final plans. But, obviously, this does not reassure too much for the moment.
