Introducing the Odyssey OLED G6, Samsung's gaming monitor that reaches 500 Hz

Introducing the Odyssey OLED G6, Samsung's gaming monitor that reaches 500 Hz

And when we say bomb, we mean it: it's quite simply the world's first OLED gaming monitor capable of reaching a frequency of 500 Hz. Enough to relegate the competition to the status of mere spectators?

The South Korean giant, already firmly established on the throne of the global gaming monitor market for six years (and that of OLED gaming screens for two years), is not content to follow the trend. It wants to create it: "Samsung continues to dominate the gaming monitor industry thanks to revolutionary innovations that change the way we experience games," explains Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Division at Samsung Electronics. With this Odyssey OLED G6, the ambition is clear: "to push performance, visual quality and immersion to new heights in order to offer the next benchmark in displays to gamers worldwide." Just that.

What does this Hertz debauchery actually mean?

With its Odyssey OLED G6, the manufacturer is claiming a new level of performance. Its monitor boasts a 0.03 ms (GTG) response time, eliminating even the slightest motion blur, all on a 27-inch QD-OLED panel with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440).

To top it all off, the Odyssey OLED G6 adds VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 and HDR10+ Gaming certifications, which guarantee deep blacks and vibrant colors. NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technologies are obviously included to say goodbye to screen tearing and other visual artifacts. As for connectivity, there is a DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports and a headphone jack. On paper, Samsung seems to have ticked all the boxes for the ultimate gaming monitor.

The brand continues its momentum by offering a brightness of 1000 nits for its screen. Beyond the dizzying numbers, the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SF) incorporates Glare Free technology to minimize annoying reflections that could spoil immersion. Samsung promises a screen that is 54% less bright than with a conventional anti-glare film.

Designed for gamers

In addition, OLED Safeguard+ technology protects the screen against the dreaded screen burn-in. As Tom’s Hardware explains, it incorporates a pulsating heat pipe system to dissipate heat, a thermal modulation system to adjust brightness automatically, as well as detection of fixed logos and taskbars. Samsung also covers burn-in in its warranty for “normal use,” but excludes commercial use or misuse. All these elements aim to reassure gamers in the event of prolonged use and regarding the monitor's lifespan.

Finally, a Pantone validation that guarantees "very precise" color reproduction is present. The monitor has access to over 2,100 colors and 110 shades of skin tones.

Samsung's 500Hz OLED monitor will be released in France (but not right away)

Gamers in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia will be the first lucky ones to get their hands on this Odyssey OLED G6, before a gradual global rollout in 2025. For now, Samsung has not announced an official price or a specific date for the French and European markets. We can already expect a price that will easily exceed 1,000 euros.
