The Galaxy Note20 is a legend, somewhat in spite of itself, since it was the last Note that Samsung ever produced. Starting in 2022, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has taken over the codes with the square profile and the stylus.
Like any electronic device, the Galaxy Note20 is reaching the end of its update cycle, reports the site SammyGuru. The smartphones will be entitled to the April 2025 security update which fixes 60 vulnerabilities, including some critical flaws linked directly to Android. It should then benefit from their latest update within three months.
Both devices haven't received any feature updates since One UI 5.1 (Android 13) in early 2023. It's interesting to note that at the time, an ultra-premium device like the Galaxy Note Ultra only received three major updates, since it was released with Android 10. Much water has flowed under the bridge since then, the S25 Ultra has benefited from 7 years of updates.
Is it a big deal?
If you use a Galaxy Note20 on a daily basis, it's certainly not going to stop working overnight. But from the moment it no longer benefits from security patches, the more months go by, the less secure it will be to use it. Especially if you have your bank's app installed on it. Of course, for this to be a problem, someone would have to exploit a flaw identified in Android or One UI that has been fixed by the latest patches, but which your Galaxy Note therefore hasn't received. Suffice to say, you have a few months before you have to seriously worry about this.
