Jurassic World Renaissance wants to make us forget its rotten predecessor

Jurassic World Renaissance wants to make us forget its rotten predecessor

A rebirth... we hope. After a last trilogy with ups and downs—a delightful Fallen Kingdom and two forgettable, even revolting films—Universal Pictures is giving these Cretaceous creatures another chance. Gone are Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and the franchise imagined by Steven Spielberg in 1993 will now evolve alongside new heroes. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali will star in this film directed by Gareth Edwards.

As is often the case, the film will follow adventurers who are more or less adapted to hostile environments and eager to study John Hammond's big beasts. In the labs that were used to create the first Jurassic Park, specialist Zora Bennett, paleontologist Henry Loomis, and guide Duncan Kincaid hope to find the DNA of three dinosaurs to develop revolutionary biological technology. The problem is that the specimens must be alive to enable this major scientific breakthrough. Nothing new under the sun, then, but a great team that makes us want to discover more. After all, Gareth Edwards directed one of the rare Godzilla films in recent years that's as worth watching as the best Star Wars of the last year: Rogue One. The participation of David Koepp, screenwriter of the first two installments of the franchise, is also particularly reassuring. The Johansson-Bailey duo also reminds us of the heyday of adventure series, think Sydney Fox and Nigel.

A few giants appeared in the promo, suggesting that horror and thrills would drive the action. But the film hasn't yet shown all it's capable of. Universal Pictures is correcting this before a new trailer. Watch out for the dinos...
