Upending the rules of a game that's over a decade old is no small feat. However, it could well end up happening for League of Legends, a true monument on PC. The MOBA has been a hit for over 13 years now and has established itself as one of the leaders of the eSports scene. Players are legion, millions every day, and their numbers are even increasing since the intergalactic success that is the Arcane series. Soon, LoL could try to attract an even wider audience with the arrival of a feature that could change everything.
League of Legends could completely change
Since the dawn of time, League of Legends has used a rather simple basic gameplay. We move and aim with the mouse, clicking allows us to perform various actions such as automatically attacking an opponent or a creature, and the keyboard keys are used to use objects, spells and skills. Simple foundations on which the entire game was built and more complex mechanics such as kiting, moving while shooting while maintaining a certain distance between ourselves and our enemies. It is also these techniques that make the game so dense and interesting and allow certain talents to shine.
But the cards could well be reshuffled soon because of a new feature: the ability to move with the WASD keys. Besides the obvious obligation to review all its keys and shortcuts, it is the overall dynamic of the game that risks being transformed. Moving with the keys will clearly allow you to be more responsive and precise, even allowing you to quickly dodge like what we can see in Battlerite or even in the very good Supervive.
A change that could be important, but still remains very mysterious
Unearthed by SkinSpotlights, a line of code has been introduced into the Lol files via the PBE (the game's test client). Upon further investigation, it turns out that the presence of menus and other options related to this new feature have been found, such as the ability to cast spells in the character's direction or linking the auto-attack movement to the left click. What is Riot Games preparing for us? The question remains.
Such a change in the game could completely overhaul its gameplay and mechanics, and would certainly require new balances. Not to mention the impact it would have on the eSports scene. For the moment, it is still too early to sound the alarm; Riot Games has not yet commented on the leak, and we know nothing about what it will actually be. Is this a new temporary mode? Or a real overhaul for the gameplay? The question remains.
