Besides the cinema, Marvel also operates on the small screen. And even though the MCU has been going strong since 2008 and its debut with Iron Man, on the TV series side, a reboot was launched in 2021 with the launch of Disney+. And rather than trying to integrate existing Marvel series into its plans, Disney preferred to write them off. Many beloved characters were dropped. For years, fans fought for their return. And with Daredevil: Born Again, it's now a reality. Several Marvel Television characters have emerged from the shadows, here are the 9 confirmed ones.
Matt Murdock
After three seasons on Netflix, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock finally found his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home. An introduction that hit the mark with fans, who were finally able to stop demanding the vigilante's rescue. And for good reason, the cancellation of his Netflix series was considered by many to be unjustified, for an extremely popular character. Before the release of his own MCU series, Charlie Cox was also featured in She-Hulk: Avocado, in which he notably unveiled his new costume. And now, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock is back, and for good, in Daredevil: Born Again, alongside many other Netflix characters.
Jessica Jones
It's now official, but Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this announcement, Daredevil: Born Again announcing itself as the meeting place for Marvel Television characters. Still, questions remain. Will the rest of the Defenders eventually return as well? It's a mystery. It's not yet known how involved Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones will be in the Disney+ series. But it's possible that this return to the forefront will serve as a lead-in to a new solo series for the private investigator.
Frank Castle
Daredevil's rival, Jon Bernthal's Punisher, returned to his beloved role in Daredevil: Born Again. The cancellation of The Punisher was the source of many complaints, and Marvel ultimately risks little by bringing this popular character back to the forefront. Frank Castle is back in the MCU, but it remains to be seen how much Marvel intends to put him in the spotlight. Nevertheless, it's nice to see Jon Bernthal's Punisher back on our screens, a role that fits him like a glove.
Wilson Fisk
Marvel's cult antagonist, Wilson Fisk is one of Daredevil's main foes. And with Daredevil: Born Again, Fisk is at the center of the action. But Fisk had already delighted us with his return in Echo, although his arrival in Daredevil: Born Again gives him a more important role. Mayor of New York, he imposes martial law and hunts down vigilantes, a chaotic period for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that could well be found on the big screen, and potentially in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It's possible that the villain from this first season of Daredevil: Born Again will be seen opposite Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Vanessa Fisk
Played by Ayelet Zurer, Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk's wife, is also back in Daredevil: Born Again. A first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Netflix's Daredevil series. Loyal to the role, but also to Fisk, Vanessa Fisk has nevertheless taken over the reins of her husband's empire. However, since Wilson Fisk has been mayor of New York, shady dealings have become more difficult, and the couple has entered a more complicated phase. Power, illegality, justice, revenge, the perfect ingredients for an explosive cocktail.
Karen Page
Even though Deborah Ann Woll reprised her role as Karen Page in Daredevil: Born Again, it was only for a short time. A relatively short screen time, Page decided to move to another city quickly. Even though the events of Daredevil: Born Again took him out of the spotlight, his closeness to Frank Castle could allow him to appear in the Disney+ series Punisher. We hope to hear about it soon.
Foggy Nelson
Well known to Daredevil fans, Foggy Nelson wasn't on screen for very long. Matt Murdock's best friend and business partner was brutally murdered in Daredevil: Born Again. Eldon Henson's Foggy Nelson was the reason for Karen Page's departure, but more importantly, Murdock's downfall. It was following the disappearance of his best friend that Matt Murdock hung up his suit. Although Foggy Nelson is indeed dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's still possible that the character could return in a flashback, or through the magic of the Multiverse.
Bullseye
Antagonist from season 3 of Netflix's Daredevil series, Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter is back in Daredevil: Born Again! Wilson Bethel plays the villainous Bullseye, a character whose back was broken by Wilson Fisk and who decides to undergo an experimental procedure to strengthen his spine. A good idea that allowed him to survive his fall during his confrontation with Daredevil. At the same time, what a great idea to shoot Foggy Nelson...
Josie
Josie (played on screen by Susan Varon), the bartender at Josie's Bar in Hell's Kitchen, is back in Daredevil: Born Again. A regular hangout for Matt and his colleagues, Josie is well and truly integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the new Daredevil solo series. However, her beloved bar, a place of good humor and revelry, is tarnished by the murder of Foggy Nelson during Cherry's retirement party.
