Mojo joins Dailymotion: the bold gamble of a French Tech in search of renewal

Dailymotion wants to expand its business and this is shaking up the French Tech world. Indeed, the acquisition of Mojo, an AI-powered video creation and editing app, highlights its desire to become a video social network and compete with giants in this field like TikTok, which could be acquired by Amazon or YouTube.

However, other changes must be taken into account. It must be said that Dailymotion is, in everyone's mind, an old platform that is struggling to reinvent itself. And this acquisition would be able to bring major benefits if innovations are implemented.

A promising and already popular application

If you don't know Mojo, it's a video creation application that has been very successful with more than 300,000 paying subscribers. It must be said that it has been able to adapt to users' needs by adopting an intuitive interface.

But that's not all, because artificial intelligence is an integral part of this software, allowing everyone to change their background or add animated effects. Not to mention that a library of customizable templates is accessible to all.

Thus, Mojo has been downloaded more than 50 million times since its launch and a large part of its users are none other than content creators. Therefore, with this acquisition unveiled by Canal +, Dailymotion will offer professional tools, as Guillaume ClĂ©ment, CEO of the platform, explains: “With Mojo, we are adding an essential cornerstone to our offering and we are delighted to welcome the talented Mojo team, whose expertise and creativity will enable us to strengthen our capacity for innovation. Our ambition is clear: to offer creators and brands the best tools to create, distribute and monetize their videos, in complete autonomy.”

What changes can we expect?

While the acquisition of Mojo by Dailymotion, the amount of which has not been disclosed, is a golden opportunity, some users seem to fear changes to their favorite app. And yet, none of this will happen.

Indeed, Mojo will continue to develop and seek innovations alongside its integration into Dailymotion. Furthermore, the French platform plans to integrate these tools into its offering for Pro customers and advertisers.

Regarding Mojo users, there is an advantage since they will have access to Dailymotion's remuneration ecosystem. However, while these advances are significant, the video platform's aging image persists.

And on this subject, Mojo co-founders Jean Patry and Francescu Santoni add this: "For Dailymotion, this is an opportunity to attract new talent and foster the emergence of a new generation of content creators, leveraging Mojo's expertise in video editing: innovative, simple, and high-quality. For Mojo, this will allow us to join the virtuous circle where Dailymotion users move from consuming content to creating their own videos." So, it remains to be seen whether these advances will be beneficial for Dailymotion and the site will regain its former glory.
