Naughty Dog's next Intergalactic is about to get serious

Naughty Dog's next Intergalactic is about to get serious

Naughty Dog is currently seeing all of its fans' attention focused on The Last of Us series. So much so that we almost forget that the Californian studio announced with great fanfare a brand new franchise at The Game Awards 2024. But since then, information about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has only been trickling in. Yesterday, it was surprisingly even through one of the cast members that we finally got concrete news about the game.

A former The Last of Us confirms that he will be in Intergalactic

They had said that they would not announce a new game too far in advance. However, Naughty Dog and PlayStation have clearly gotten ahead of themselves by revealing to the world the development of Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet. Revealed without a release date, we only know that it is in preparation for the PS5. Still, we have some doubts that it will be released before 2027. Recent statements from a cast member tend to reinforce this.

Our colleagues at Dexerto recently spoke with Stephen A. Chang. This name may ring a bell for fans of The Last of Us 2, who know him as the actor who plays Jesse (although the character is Jasper Jeon). Clearly, as was the case with Tati Gabrielle, who plays the lead role in Intergalactic, Naughty Dog seems to have appreciated the collaboration with the actor who landed a role in the new game. He will play one of the members of the Five Aces, therefore one of the close friends of Jordan, the heroine.

Chang has indeed revealed what fans had guessed thanks to artwork: he will indeed be part of the cast of Intergalactic. He even gives some additional details, saying that he "started working on Naughty Dog's new game last week." Unfortunately, the actor can't say much more yet, and for good reason: everything is kept secret.

Naughty Dog does everything to preserve the mystery

After the waves of leaks that were more than damaging for TLOU 2, Naughty Dog seems to have reinforced its culture of secrecy. Stephen A. Chang discusses the mystery surrounding Intergalactic, even for those working directly on it. For example, he learned the heroine's name late in the day. Until seeing the official trailer, he didn't "know what to expect" given the limited information he had. One of her colleagues was even wondering up until that point if they weren't working on The Last of Us 3.

One of the reasons for this ignorance is also Naughty Dog's approach. As with The Last of Us 2, Chang reports that Intergalactic is filmed "in sequences." With no way of offering a complete script, the shoot is completely unstructured. This explains why Neil Druckmann, until recently, was unsure how the game would end.

Finally, the studio recently shared a job offer for a senior dialogue designer. Therefore, even if production is moving forward on Intergalactic, it's clear that not everything is finalized yet. Therefore, filming could take some time. Another hypothesis is also possible around the character of Stephen A. Chang, namely that he could have only a minor role in the game, which would explain his early involvement on the board.
