And it really needed it....
A major update before the Nintendo Switch 2
Dated interface, navigation not always practical, lack of filters...The Nintendo Switch eShop is often considered lagging behind, especially compared to the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Store.But what has most annoyed players for years is the massive presence of poor-quality games. Titles sold at knockdown prices, often of no interest, but which dominate the rankings.
Why? Because they took advantage of a simple flaw: being sold at a very low price to generate a lot of small sales, and easily climb to the top sales charts. As a result, these games found themselves highlighted, sometimes even ahead of truly good titles.
Nintendo changes the rules of the game
With its latest update, Nintendo is finally revising the ranking system for the Nintendo Switch eShop. From now on, the charts will no longer be based on the number of copies sold in 48 hours. Instead, the turnover generated over 72 hours will be taken into account. In short: a game sold for €1 will have to sell more to compete with a €20 title. This will significantly limit the visibility of trap games, which flooded the top sales thanks to aggressive promotions and misleading communication.
It's hard not to make the connection with the upcoming arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo is quietly preparing the ground, and this improvement is a step in the right direction. It may be the beginning of a cleaner, more readable, and better organized eShop.
Obviously, this update doesn't solve everything. The catalog is still very full, and the interface deserves a real facelift. But this change shows that Nintendo is finally taking the user experience on its platform seriously.
