Nintendo Switch Online Welcomes Another Free Game

Nintendo Switch Online Welcomes Another Free Game

If there's one publisher that likes to have its sights set in several directions, it's Nintendo. Indeed, while the Kyoto-based company is currently preparing to mark the start of a new era in its history with the Nintendo Switch 2, it hasn't forgotten to feed the nostalgic fiber of its audience as much as possible. Between two remasters, it continues to enrich the catalog of its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which welcomes a cult title from the Nintendo 64 today.

Killer Instinct joins the Nintendo Switch catalog

Its name? Killer Instinct Gold. Developed by Rare in 1996 before arriving in Europe the following year, this fighting game followed a first installment released in 1995 on Super Nintendo. Inherited from the arcade version called Killer Instinct 2, it gave console players the opportunity to return to the arena to engage in some of the most spectacular fights of the time. A classic in the eyes of some, it's worth rediscovering now with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Here's everything you need to know about it, according to the game's page provided by the publisher:

The Killer Instinct tournament is back in this classic fighting game released on Nintendo 64 in 1996. Choose your character from 10 formidable fighters and test your instincts in several explosive game modes. Face off against other fighters in classic Arcade mode, line up your favorite characters against those of a friend in Team mode, or organize fights between up to eight players in Tournament mode! You can also take advantage of Training mode to refine your techniques. The game allows for thousands of devastating moves and combos, and a little practice can take you a long way. On the other hand, you'll need a lot to succeed in chaining the 70 hits of the Ultra-Combo... and you still have to avoid being interrupted by a COMBO BREAKER!

So, admittedly, Killer Instinct Gold may not have been as unanimously acclaimed as some of its competitors at the time, such as Tekken 2 or Virtua Fighter 2 for example, but it still managed to leave a lasting impression on many fighting game fans. However, remember that to access it, you must have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. Available for €39.99 per year, this will give you access to a rich catalog of retro games from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and SEGA Mega Drive.
