Microsoft has acknowledged an issue with one of its latest Windows 10 updates. For some time now, a very useful feature of the Start menu has simply stopped working. The cause is known and it is possible to solve the problem in a simple way.
Windows 10 may be at the end of its life, but it is still widely used all over the world. However, some users have noticed that the Start menu has not been working properly for some time now. Windows Latest reported this annoying bug.
When you open the Windows 10 Start menu, tiles appear on the right. Theoretically, right-clicking on them will allow you to access the most recently opened files with the application in question (as shown in the image below). But for some time now, this is no longer possible, as these recent files no longer appear.
Microsoft broke Windows 10 by integrating a Windows 11 feature
This issue appeared with an optional update released on February 25th. Some users encountered it with the updates that followed, four in total released from March 11 to April 22, 2025. If you downloaded one, you are certainly affected.

Microsoft is aware of the problem. Better than that, the Redmond company knows the cause. The culprit is actually the addition of account management in the Start menu. A feature inherited from Windows 11 that allows you to manage your subscriptions with one click. Enough to show the last users of Windows 10 that Windows 11 isn't so terrible? In any case, the bug is causing a stir, even if it isn't intentional. Microsoft has released a new update to fix all this. By updating your Windows 10, it should be possible to access recent files again.
As a reminder, Windows 10 will no longer be supported as of October 14, 2025. Until then, users are encouraged to download Windows 11 to continue benefiting from security and quality of life updates. Whether we like it or not, we will have to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system.
