PlayStation Announces New Exclusive and New Studio, But Not Everyone Will Like It

Over the past few years, PlayStation has opened and closed studios. Following the failure of Concord, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the closure of Firewalk Studios. Unfortunately, London Studio (Blood & Truth) also didn't escape the Japanese company's cuts. Alongside this, we recently discovered the opening of Dark Outlaw, a studio born from the ashes of Deviation Games with Jason Blundell (Call of Duty) at the helm. No information on the title, but it will undoubtedly be a production with a strong multiplayer component to meet the challenge of the manufacturer's games-as-a-service strategy. Today, PlayStation made a surprise announcement that no one saw coming, and it's likely to disappoint and clearly not please everyone.

Team LFG Joins the PlayStation Studios Family

Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, posted a message on the official PlayStation Blog to inaugurate the creation of a new studio called Team LFG. "Originating at Bungie, teamLFG has brought together developers from across the industry to bring to life an ambitious project that I'm very much looking forward to," he said. While Hulst reports that this structure is operational, we won't have a direct glimpse of their work for the time being. However, this new PlayStation Studio has written a statement to introduce itself and to give players a better understanding of its philosophy and the direction of their first production.

Our team is comprised not only of veterans who have worked on titles such as Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room, but also of newcomers with innovative ideas and skills. We are passionate about exceptional action games, ultra-responsive gaming experiences, and socially dynamic virtual worlds.” The LFG stands for “Looking For Group,” reflecting the service-based gaming orientation of this newly formed PlayStation studio.

“We are driven by our desire to create games in which players can connect, find community, and feel a true sense of belonging. We want our players to look forward to logging in to meet their gaming partners already online.” TeamLFG is therefore dedicated to creating immersive multiplayer worlds in which players can lose themselves for the long term.

First information on a new PS5 game... or PS6?

For now, we don't know if TeamLFG is working on a new PlayStation 5 exclusive, or if the studio will wait for the PS6. However, we already have details on the nature of this future game. "Our first game is a team-based action game that draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life simulators, and other games featuring amphibians. Players will evolve in a light and humorous world, mixing myths, science fiction and fantasy. We can't wait to reveal more to you. A game that is likely to disappoint those who were expecting a single-player experience. Remember that Fairgame$, the service game by Jade Raymond (Assassin's Creed) is still in development, and that the next big title from Bungie (Destiny, Halo), Marathon, will be available on September 23, 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
