Pokémon Legends: Z-A: the release date finally revealed on Switch 2

Rumors suggested a launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 as soon as Nintendo's console was released, along with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Before the announcement of a game developed for the original Nintendo Switch, which somewhat dampened fans' hopes. Which the images revealed during February's Pokémon Presents have indeed confirmed.

While Nintendo unveiled a presentation video, announced the three starters, and presented the new features of this sequel to Arceus (a real-time battle system, and the return of Mega Evolutions, which we detailed right here). It then remained to be seen when this new adventure in the city of Illumis would be released on Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, which will be released on June 5th.

Pre-orders, upgrades, and an upcoming Pokémon Presents

It was by surprise that The Pokémon Company announced today the release date of the two versions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A for October 16th. The company revealed that the Switch 2 edition will benefit from "improved graphics and greater fluidity". The game cover, quite dark, where Illumis is depicted at night with the starters Germignon and Kaiminus, is also outlined in the Pokémon post Company.

Those who aren't lucky enough to get their hands on a Switch 2 in time will still be able to purchase a paid upgrade physically or digitally from the Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store. For those who wish to reserve their precious pass, Nintendo confirms that pre-orders will begin on June 5, at the launch of the Switch 2.

But that's not all. A Pokémon Presents has been announced for July 22, 2025 to lift the veil on the future of Pokémon. We expect new images of Legends Z-A, news of the Pokémon TCG, perhaps a remake, but also - and this is undoubtedly what fans are waiting for the most - concrete information on the 10th generation, which should take advantage of the power of the Switch 2 to bring a turning point to the franchise and attract players. Some were indeed disappointed to see that this Legends Z-A only benefited from an upgrade to Nintendo's future console. An episode developed as a treat before the next behemoth. At least, we hope so.
