Announced with great fanfare for January 2021, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has had a rather chaotic journey. Postponed three times, transferred from its original studios (Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai) to Ubisoft Montreal, and presumably restarted from scratch, the project had practically disappeared from the radar for a while. So much so that we wondered if the project was still alive. However, according to Ubisoft's latest financial report, the game is indeed in development and scheduled for release before March 2026.
The information, spotted by the site Insider Gaming, appears in the publisher's forecasts for the 2025 fiscal year, which began on April 1st. The remake is listed among the games expected to contribute to the company's economic performance alongside Assassin's Creed Shadows, Siege X, Anno 117: Pax Romana, Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence. In concrete terms, this means that the game should be released within the next eleven months, although no specific date has yet been announced.
What do we know about the game? Spoiler: Not much
This discreet return, however, leaves some uncertainty. When it was announced in 2020, the project highlighted the participation of Jordan Mechner, creator of the series, and Yuri Lowenthal, the iconic voice of the Prince in the original version. Since the studio change in 2022, Ubisoft has not confirmed whether these two major figures are still involved in development. The lack of communication on this subject therefore legitimately raises questions.
The second element to watch is the game's visual quality, which was heavily criticized during its first presentation. The shift of development to Montreal could mean a complete overhaul, but nothing has yet been revealed publicly. A presentation at the Summer Game Fest, scheduled for June 2025, seems likely. However, we'll have to wait for confirmation from Ubisoft to know for sure.
Although this remake hasn't yet reached the delay records of Beyond Good and Evil 2, announced more than fifteen years ago, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake remains one of the French company's most anticipated and closely watched projects. The coming months should allow us to learn more about its final form, and its faithfulness to the cult 2003 game. Let's just hope that the title doesn't pull a Skull and Bones on us, and isn't disappointing after so many years of waiting.
