Resident Evil 9: The game's release window has just been leaked

Is the wait for Resident Evil 9 finally over? Four years after the release of Village, the final installment in Ethan Winters' trilogy is about to arrive.

Where is Resident Evil 9?

Capcom shines mainly thanks to two flagship franchises: Monster Hunter and Resident Evil. The Japanese company released the 9th installment in its saga, Monster Hunter Wild, to critical and public acclaim. Capcom can then focus on developing Resident Evil 9, a title we've been hearing about for quite some time now, although we still don't have anything concrete to sink our teeth into. Capcom has been silent so far (aside from a potential hidden clue in a thank you video for Resident Evil 4 Remake). Players can only rely on the words of insiders, who are the authors of more or less reliable rumors.

Attention all agents,
We've prepared a special video to express our gratitude to all of you, which we hope you'll enjoy (with sound ON)!

On this point, the rumors are rather rich. Part of the storyline, playable characters, monsters, bosses, and environments were leaked at the end of last year. Also, the game would borrow some mechanics from Resident Evil 4, while continuing the story of its trilogy started with Resident Evil 7.

A release in 2026, and revelations this year

This time, it's neither gameplay nor story that's leaking, but rather a potential release window for the game. Insider AestheticGamer, also known under the pseudonym Dusk Golem, a specialist in horror games and in particular the Resident Evil saga, suggests that content on Resident Evil 9 will be revealed this year by Capcom, which will take the opportunity to announce a release date for next year.

Poll: Are you looking forward to Resident Evil 9?

Information that should be taken with a certain step back, but which seems logical, given the gap between the last releases of the games stamped Resident Evil. The seventh opus was released in 2017, and RE: Village in 2021. More broadly, since the 4th installment released in 2005, Capcom has given itself between four and five before launching its successor. Years filled by the release of remakes of the most acclaimed games, such as Resident Evil 2 in 2019, Resident Evil 3 in 2020, and most recently Resident Evil 4 in 2023.

2026 will therefore mark the fifth anniversary of the release date of Resident Evil Village. A year which would correspond with the deployment of the opus responsible for completing the trilogy around the Megamycete. A significant amount of development time is needed for the launch of an "ultra ambitious" title that would bring "major and radical changes" to the very essence of the saga, according to Dusk Golem.

Should we expect a first video at the next Game Awards? Or at Gamescom this summer? We really hope so.
