The smart ring market is still made up of three major players: Samsung among the big tech companies, and Oura Ring and Ultrahuman among the more specialized manufacturers. But Samsung couldn't continue to market a model that disappoints so much with measurements deemed too average. To remedy this, the brand has just released a patch that aims to offer greater precision. The new firmware, Q50XWWU2AYD1, promises more precise and integrated health monitoring.
Energy Score
Among the areas the update has focused its efforts on is the Galaxy Ring's energy score. To make the score more optimal for physical activity throughout the day, Samsung will offer its customers, via the Samsung Health app, the ability to more precisely adjust the efforts made. Without a good understanding of physical activity during the day, it's difficult to offer a more coherent "energy score" report, when it also includes sleep and resting heart rate.
Samsung also plans to do more analysis based on the metrics collected from the Galaxy Ring, taking advantage of its Galaxy AI artificial intelligence. This will certainly be an opportunity to find tips for improving one's health.
Sleep optimization
Finally, the Galaxy Ring connected ring will become the brain of SmartThing, Samsung's network of connected objects, when it comes to personalizing the sleep routine. The goal will be to make the ring interact with other objects. We can imagine a system to trigger the alarm at a more optimal time based on the sleep cycle of the person wearing the ring. Another possible path would be to optimize the temperature of a room based on body temperature.
At the competition, and notably Oura with the Oura Ring 4 and the Oura Ring 3, the time has come to optimize the features for detecting the first signs of weakness or the first symptoms that could indicate an illness. The data from a ring does not allow you to go very far in terms of preventing chronic diseases, heart or respiratory problems, but at least it can warn of a virus or a non-obvious need for rest.
