Samsung is working on a new feature to better protect your sensitive content. A private album could soon appear in the Gallery app. A simpler solution than Secure Folder is reportedly being tested.
The One UI 7 rollout started late in April 2025, and is still rolling out to more than 50 Galaxy models until the end of July. This version, based on Android 15, brings several useful new features, but Samsung is already thinking about what's next. Behind the scenes, the brand is testing One UI 8, an update that could introduce new features focused on privacy. Among them, a “private album” in the Gallery app is reportedly in development. A lighter alternative to Secure Folder, to quickly hide sensitive photos without having to go through a cumbersome configuration. According to a leak spotted in the One UI 8 beta, a private album is being tested in the “Labs” section of the Gallery app. It would allow you to hide photos and videos without leaving the main interface. The idea would be to offer a separate, easy-to-access space without complex passwords or biometric authentication. Unlike Secure Folder, which is often considered too cumbersome for simple images, this option would aim for simplicity.
A simpler and more accessible private album than Secure Folder in One UI 8
Secure Folder remains a robust solution for locking sensitive files or apps. It requires a password or fingerprint, but its use can seem excessive to only hide a few images. Private Album would aim to fill this intermediate need: a lightweight tool, integrated into the gallery, which requires no advanced manipulation. It would be part of a desire to make privacy more accessible, while optimizing its ease of use.
Samsung has not yet confirmed the integration of this feature in the final version of One UI 8. It remains hidden in the experimental options and could be removed before launch. The update is expected after the release of Android 16, probably sometime in July. Other new features are planned, such as better task management, improved battery life, and AI functions. But for many, the ability to discreetly hide photos could well become the most anticipated.
