Scorpion is an underrated character in the Spider-Man universe. Having been in the MCU since Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mac Gargan is completely underutilized in the Marvel Universe. In any case, we have an idea: make Mac Gargan the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Here are 5 good reasons why Scorpion should become Peter Parker's next antagonist in the cinema.
5) He is Spider-Man's mirror image
Mac Gargan, the Scorpion, has always been a symbol of corruption of scientific power. Created through an experiment, he is the embodiment of what Peter could have become without his moral conscience: a man obsessed with revenge and power. Your faithful servant Spider-Man quickly addresses these mirrored themes between two characters who know each other very well. Mac Gargan could therefore push Peter Parker to his moral limits. An interesting theme that has never really been developed in the MCU.
4) Michael Mando in the role
You may have forgotten, but Mac Gargan is indeed in the MCU. He appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming as the actor Michael Mando. This Canadian actor in his forties is best known for playing Nacho Varga in the series Better Call Saul. In the MCU, he plays the Scorpion, even though the latter has never appeared in costume. He is stopped by Spider-Man and sent to prison. There, he crosses paths with the Vulture and tries to extract information from him about Spidey's secret identity. In any case, Michael Mando is absolutely perfect in the role of this character created in 1965 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. And we'd love to see more of him.
3) His connection to J. Jonah Jameson
Played by J.K. Simmons, the famous journalist J. Jonah Jameson recently joined the MCU. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, the immense J.K. Simmons had the opportunity to reprise the role of editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle. As in Sam Raimi's trilogy, J. Jonah Jameson hates Spider-Man. And he'd love to know Spidey's secret identity. He even succeeds at the end of Far From Home, thanks to the intervention of Mysterio. But, following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dr. Strange erased Spider-Man's existence from the world. Back to square one. Logically, J. Jonah Jameson will once again do everything he can to reveal Spider-Man's identity to the world. In the comics, he even goes so far as to hire the psychopath Scorpion to achieve his ends. A plot that we really like and that could therefore be used in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
2) His appearance in Your faithful servant Spider-Man
We would love to see him in Brand New Day because he totally wowed us in the animated series Your faithful servant Spider-Man. A recurring secondary role, Scorpion appears in several episodes to give our friendly neighborhood spider a hard time. Particularly determined, particularly violent, Scorpion takes on his full psychotic and dangerous identity in Your faithful servant Spider-Man. He is charismatic, disturbing, devilishly powerful, and gives a glimpse of what Scorpion could be in live-action.
1) Because he is also Venom
Besides bringing back Scorpion, the presence of Mac Gargan in the MCU could be synonymous with Venom. Indeed, in the comics, Mac Gargan is one of Venom's hosts. He is the one who recovers the symbiote after the latter decides to abandon Eddie Brock. Because of his violent, particularly unbalanced nature, Mac Gargan is one of the worst Venoms. Violent, deranged, and constantly out for blood, he is a powerful and completely unpredictable Venom, whom we would love to see in the MCU. Thus, the presence of Mac Gargan could be the ideal prism to introduce Venom into the MCU.
