While Spider-Verse fans eagerly await the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled for 2027, Amazon Prime Video has just released the first teaser for its long-awaited series: Spider-Verse.
Amazon Prime unleashes its Spider-Man
In 2018, Sony Pictures revolutionized animated cinema with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a little gem whose remarkable influence continues to be felt seven years later - we are thinking in particular of the series Asterix & Obelix: The Battle of the Chiefsby Alain Chabat. In 2023, it was the turn of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to hit our cinema screens; even more generous than the first film, this second installment gave a real lesson in multiverse management to a moribund Marvel Cinematic Universe, which had the greatest difficulty in convincing the press and the public with its Multiverse Saga. Ending on a cruel cliffhanger, the feature film will be entitled to a sequel, Spider-Man:Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has been delayed several times and will arrive on our cinema screens on June 2, 2027.
Good news, however, we won't necessarily have to wait until this distant date to immerse ourselves in the world of the Spider-Verse. Indeed, Amazon Prime Video, which has signed a lucrative deal with Sony Pictures and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to develop live-action spin-off series. The first of these projects is Spider-Noir with Nicolas Cage, centered on the character introduced in Into the Spider-Verse. At the Upfronts event currently taking place in New York, which allows the various networks and SVODs to present their upcoming projects to advertisers and the public, Amazon Prime Video unveiled the first very successful teaser for Spider-Noir, officially expected in 2026. Entirely in black and white, this thirty-second video effectively installs us in this film noir atmosphere, an extremely codified genre that is currently experiencing a nice revival, notably through certain films like Nightmare Alley by Guillermo Del Toro, Park Chan-wook's Decision to Leave, and Matt Reeves' The Batman, which echoes some of its leitmotifs.
Note that the series will be released in two different versions, as Amazon Prime Video is also planning a color version of Spider-Noir. In any case, this is a huge coup for Amazon Prime Video, which continues to offer an attractive alternative to Disney+'s Marvel superhero productions and DC productions. In recent years, the streaming platform has distinguished itself with Eric Kripke's The Boys series - based on the comics by Northern Irish writer Garth Ennis - and Robert Kirkman's Invincible, inspired by his own comic book series. 2026 will be a very busy year for superhero fans on Amazon Prime Video, with the final season of The Boys, season 4 of Invincible, and the first season of Spider-Noir expected. Note that at the same time, Marvel will be releasing Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while DC will be making headlines with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film Clayface and the series Lanterns.
