Big change for Bail Organa

In August 2022, Lucasfilm is hitting hard with the series Star Wars: Andor - since renamed Andor: a Star Wars story. By recounting the early years of resistance of Captain Cassian Andor - one of the main characters in Gareth Edwards' film Rogue One -, showrunner Tony Gilroy seized the opportunity to immerse us in the chaotic beginnings of the Rebel Alliance. A wise choice since Andor is unanimously considered the best Star Wars series to date! Season 2 (our full review of which can be found here) takes the time to detail the internal struggles that are eating away at the Resistance in the face of Palpatine's Galactic Empire.

In episodes 4 to 6, released Wednesday, April 30 on Disney+, Cassian Andor must travel to the planet Ghorman, which serves as a common thread throughout this season 2 and whose importance is known to fans of Star Wars Rebels. The new episodes were also an opportunity to meet a character well known to fans: Senator Bail Organa. Future adoptive father of Leia Organa - natural daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, and twin sister of Luke Skywalker -, the character appeared in the guise of Jimmy Smits in Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), then in Rogue One (2016) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). However, it is actor Benjamin Bratt who plays the senator in season 2 of Andor.

Why this change? During an interview with TVLine, showrunner Tony Gilroy confided that it was due to a scheduling problem. Indeed, Jimmy Smits was engaged on the series East New York; Kathleen Kennedy then suggested the name of Benjamin Bratt to play the character. For his part, Gilroy had the idea of gently introducing the character before giving him a more important role in the following episodes. A very wise choice, especially since - once the surprise has passed - Benjamin Bratt plays a completely convincing Bail Organa! The actor manages, through his charisma, to instill class and dignity in a character whose status as leader of the Rebel Alliance cannot be disputed.
