The galaxy far, far away has just delivered its mass: the Star Wars Celebration. Lucasfilm was obviously looking to release a program of festivities in theaters and on the small screen, a program that was much less busy than expected. With twists and turns, films in development limbo, and series that are delayed, we take stock. Here is the list of series and films expected for the coming years.
Quantity of series on Disney+
Since its launch, Disney+ has been the go-to destination for everything related to the Skywalker family, the Mandalorians, and the Empire. In November 2019, the platform already boasted a rich catalog of (almost) every production released since 1977 in theaters, television, and DVD. The introduction of this new competitor to Netflix was also marked by the debut of The Mandalorian, the first live-action series stamped Star Wars. Since then, the company has multiplied its incursions into the universe with Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi and more recently Skeleton Crew. Things are not going to stop there, several other series and seasons are in development.
Andor (season 2) — since April 22 on Disney+
The year 2025 marks the return of one of the most acclaimed Star Wars series. After the first successful episodes, Tony Gilroy continues Cassian's quest to get closer to his meeting with Jyn Erso. As he had hinted, the creator wants to connect the events depicted in Rogue One and shed light on what led him to sacrifice himself to defeat the Empire.
Ahsoka season 2 — filming
During a dedicated panel, Dave Filoni shared some rather encouraging news for fans of Rebels and Clone Wars. A second season of Ahsoka is indeed on the agenda and things are moving in the right direction. Filming has just begun, and viewers are now hoping to see the heroes back on Disney+ in 2026. Rosario Dawson is obviously back in action... and she's not the only one. Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, likely in the in-between world that brought him back in season 1. Dave Filoni also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Ray Stevenson, who passed away in 2023. He discussed how the narrative will navigate the actor's passing. It will be about paying tribute to his performance as Stevenson while allowing his successor to take on this important role as Ahsoka. “Where there is light, there is darkness,” it was essential that the series still feature him. It is Rory McCann who will have the heavy responsibility of continuing his predecessor's momentum. The first images show him sporting a appearance very similar to Stevenson.
Maul: Shadow Lord — in 2026 on Disney+
Star Wars will play the modern card. Lucasfilm is preparing a new foray into animation with Maul: Shadow Lord and is making a change in aesthetic for the occasion. No more impersonal 3D, the stable is the last company to give in to the call of stop-motion techniques and pencil textures. The first images and the trailer have already generated a certain enthusiasm.
Maul: Shadow Lord will mark the return of Maul, the former Sith, in an all-new story set after the Clone Wars, as he attempts to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet still untouched by the Empire. Unsurprisingly, Sam Witwer is reprising the lead role after voicing the character in Rebels and Clone Wars.
New films for the cinema
After The Rise of Skywalker—a huge hit in theaters, but largely disowned by longtime fans— Star Wars took a well-deserved hiatus from theaters. It must be said that the saga concluded a crucial narrative arc, that of the struggle between good and evil embodied by the Skywalker and Palpatine families. Since then, numerous projects have been announced, but none have seen the light of day. The films developed by Kevin Feige, the creators of Game of Thrones and Taika Waititi have not given any further news, while the Star Wars Celebration of 2023 was an opportunity for Lucasfilm to formalize three pivotal projects.
Since then, things have changed again since the priority is no longer to bring back Rey or immortalize the origins of the Jedi but to Mando and Grogu as well as a completely new project led by Ryan Gosling. The departure of the screenwriter of New Jedi Order, led by Daisy Ridley, suggests that the return of Rey Skywalker will take a little longer than expected. Officially, they are still in development.
The Mandalorian & Grogu – May 20, 2026 To end his characters' journey in style, Jon Favreau holds back nothing. The director will devote a film to Din Djarin and Grogu and their companions. Not much was known about the project at the moment, except that it was a continuation of Season 3. At Star Wars Celebration 2025, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni outlined the details of this new (final?) adventure. The characters will be involved in a broader effort to help the Rebels eliminate the last bastions of the Empire. Pedro Pascal will not be alone in this adventure, as Sigourney Weaver is joining the cast. She was given the role of a former Republic Colonel and X-Wing pilot who ensures that Palpatine's followers do not resurface to create a new totalitarian regime.
Starfighter – May 26, 2027
The rumor had been circulating for several weeks, Lucasfilm has just confirmed the start of work on a film with Ryan Gosling. It will explore the post-Rise of Skywalker alongside an unknown character. Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is directing and already promises a new story that is completely independent from the rest of the saga. The title obviously evokes the pilots of the saga, fans are undoubtedly hoping for a Top Gun in the Star Wars galaxy.
Moreover, we know that filming is scheduled to begin this year. Fall is reportedly the preferred time for Lucasfilm. However, there are still many gray areas, starting with the rest of the cast. We can hope that the coming months will be an opportunity for the brand to say a little more on the subject.
Star Wars: New Jedi Order – coming soon
After the events of The Rise of Skywalker, Rey returns to the forefront. The character played by Daisy Ridley is to be at the epicenter of a film still directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, according to the latest news. It should tell the story of the birth of a New Jedi Order alongside one of its last representatives.
Without his guides Leia and Luke, Rey will have to find new disciplesto ensure maintaining peace in a galaxy far, far away. Steven Knight—known for Peaky Blinders—has left the ship. No release date has been shared. Star Wars: James Mangold’s Untitled Movie – Coming Soon After Indiana Jones and X-Men, James Mangold is preparing to enter the Star Wars universe. The Logan director will direct a film exploring the discovery of the Force. Officially announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2023, the project is particularly mysterious. No actors have yet been attached to the film, which also has no release date. We can nevertheless hope that the coming months will be an opportunity to learn more about the issue.
