Stellar Blade is one of the biggest critical successes of 2024. Shift Up and Sony can be pleased with the Metacritic score of 81/100 received from the press and especially the 9.2/10 rating given by more than 7,000 players. Stellar Blade is coming very soon to PC, a path that most Sony exclusives end up taking.
At the end of last year, Stellar Blade welcomed a crossover DLC with NieR Automata. Should we hope for much more, like a Stellar Blade 2? Korean studio Shift Up has just announced some big news in its latest investor presentation.
Shift Up officially announces the arrival of Stellar Blade 2 before 2027
Shift Up discusses its financial health and the evolution of its licenses in its latest investor presentation. The section concerning Stellar Blade allows us to discover what the studio plans for its new IP. There is mention of an "expansion on a new platform," most likely referring to the PC port.
Shift Up clearly indicates that a sequel to Stellar Blade is in the pipeline. The project is scheduled for release before 2027. A launch of Stellar Blade 2 in 2026, about two years after the original title, would be a feat for Shift Up. Note that of the 290 developers in the studio, 107 are working on the Stellar Blade license.
The document does not specify the proportion of people working on possible updates and additional content for Stellar Blade and its sequel. Sony and Shift Up's decision to deliver a Stellar Blade 2 is more than understandable given the critical and commercial success of the first installment.
The document reveals that Stellar Blade brought in 68.1 billion won (approximately €4.3 million) for the Korean studio in fiscal year 2024. Shift Up's net profit thus amounts to nearly €10 million thanks to the success of Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
Note that 18 people are currently working on Project Witches, a new Shift Up franchise. It is a AAA action RPG that is much more ambitious than GOV: Nikke. Communication around the game should begin by the end of the semester. Stellar Blade will be available on PC (Steam) from June 12.
