Switch 2: Don't expect much testing when the console is released

Switch 2: Don't expect much testing when the console is released

In less than three weeks, on June 5th, Nintendo will officially launch its new video game console: the Switch 2. A truly global event that is likely to be highly publicized, since this Switch 2 will have to succeed the incredible success of the first Switch and its 155 million consoles sold.

It is undoubtedly one of the events of the year and of this summer in the video game industry. However, this release may not be accompanied by tests and reviews. Indeed, Nintendo is reportedly not planning to send consoles to journalists and influencers in advance.

The Switch 2: Very little testing before release?

Switch 2: Don't expect much testing when the console is released

According to a new report from The Game Business, Nintendo should not send Switch 2 consoles to the press and influencers. A very unusual and even unprecedented situation.

Excerpt from The Game Business report

Clearly, specialized media should receive their console on the day of its release, namely June 5th. Nintendo has already justified this by explaining that this delay is due to a Day One update that will be essential for the console. The press and influencers will therefore receive their machine from June 5th to begin their tests and content.

Knowing that the Switch 2 is expected to be released just before the Summer Game Fest, this risks complicating things for specialized sites. Of course, this also inevitably raises questions. Generally, when a publisher and manufacturer don't ship their products (be it a game, a console, or something else) well in advance, it doesn't bode well. Especially if this Switch 2 would absolutely need a "Day One" update.

For the first Switch, Nintendo shipped the consoles more than a week in advance with the game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Another possibility might be that, on the contrary, Nintendo is way too sure of itself and feels it doesn't need all the media attention with the tests and reviews ahead of the release of its Switch 2.

For the moment, it's way too early to draw any conclusions. Just check back in three weeks, at the beginning of June to find out if this Switch 2 lives up to its promises, or not.
