Switch 2: Here are the 222 games that are problematic at launch (and the 15,000 that will run)

While Nintendo had promised that most Switch 1 games would be compatible on the Switch 2, we didn't have the precise details of which games would or wouldn't work until now. The Kyoto-based company has put online a dedicated page on this subject with beautiful graphics to reassure everyone.

In detail, this appears to be a very well-managed transition, since only one so-called first-party game, i.e. produced by Nintendo, will be unable to run on the console. This is the Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit, in other words, one of the most experimental titles released in recent years since it is a cardboard assembly allowing you to transform the Switch 1 into a VR headset (yes, you read that right). This incompatibility is not a surprise, as the size of the console is important for the system to work.

However, we can regret that Nintendo did not choose, like the PS5, to take advantage of the power of the Switch 2 to make Switch 1 games smoother or prettier. The company has opted to offer Switch 2 versions of its paid titles, or an upgrade of the original title costing between 10 and 20 euros.

222 games still need work

As for third-party games, the company with the red cap has also provided three detailed lists to find out whether your favorite title will be able to launch or not. So we have:

The first list contains 118 games, the second 50, and the third 54. In the latter list, we find in particular Fortnite for which it is specified that a “Switch 2 version” of the game is planned. Some applications that are not games will not be able to be used on the Switch 2. While a YouTube app is indeed planned with startup problems, the Crunchy Roll application will not work.

Nintendo has also clarified the list of games that will require Joy Con 1 to work. These are:

  • Ring Fit Adventure ;
  • 1-2-Switch ;
  • Everybody 1-2-Switch! ;
  • Game Builder Garage ;
  • Nintendo Switch Sports ;
  • WarioWare: Move It! ;
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01 ;
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02 ;
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 03.

While the catalog of new Switch 2 games may have been considered a little stingy by some, it is still appreciable to note that at launch, the console will benefit from almost the entire catalog of its predecessor, i.e. more than 15,000 games.
