The first beta version of Android 16 QPR1 has been released by Google, and we are slowly discovering all the new features introduced by this update. While some of them don't surprise us because they had already been announced, others had received no communication and therefore arrived without warning.

Android Authority, for example, has spotted a feature that allows users to more easily check and manage the fingerprints they have registered in the system in order to unlock their smartphone biometrically. A new “Verify registered fingerprints” button appears in the fingerprint unlock settings.

When you tap it, the screen goes black, leaving only the fingerprint icon to place your finger on and a text indicating to press the reader. Once you do, you return to the previous screen. If this fingerprint is already registered, you will be highlighted to indicate which fingerprint it is. To better understand how this option works, we invite you to look at the screenshots below.

Generally, we register our fingerprints as soon as we set up our mobile. To get to grips with our new device more quickly, we tend to skip certain steps quickly, and we don't always take the time to individually name each scanned fingerprint. This new feature allows you to quickly see which finger the fingerprint named “Finger 1” belongs to by default, for example. This avoids having to delete existing fingerprints and perform new scans simply to associate a finger with a fingerprint.

Samsung smartphones already have such an option with One UI, but native integration with Android will make it available on Pixel, and probably on the overlay of other manufacturers. Android 16 QPR1 will be available a few months after the release of the stable version of Android 16, probably in the last quarter of 2025.
