The new Galaxy S25 Edge is a smartphone with an ultra-premium design, but on the other hand, it has to make technical concessions in terms of battery and photography. This smartphone is paradoxical and difficult to position on the mobile market.
After months of waiting, Samsung has finally presented its Galaxy S25 Edge. As expected, the smartphone is a UFO. Its thickness is only 5.8 mm. It weighs 163 grams, the same as the Galaxy S25, while being larger than the latter. Very thin and light, it is practical and comfortable to use, as we already reported in our hands-on with this Galaxy S25 Edge. And the icing on the cake, if you were worried about possible fragility, Samsung addresses this by integrating a high-end protective glass Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 from Corning.
By its design, the device clearly belongs to the premium mobile segment. But due to design constraints and production costs, Samsung also had to make several significant technical concessions. The first comes from the camera. We are entitled to a 200 MP main sensor, the same excellent one as the one in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. But we have to make do with the Galaxy S25 and S25+'s 12 MP ultra-wide-angle, which isn't flawless.
Can the Galaxy S25 Edge be considered an ultra-premium smartphone?
Worse, the S25 Edge doesn't have a telephoto lens. Samsung has made the effort to offer such a lens on all models in its main range, unlike Apple's iPhones or Google's Pixels. This feature therefore disappears with the Galaxy S25 Edge, which only offers 2x lossless zoom and 10x digital zoom. This lack is inevitably disappointing for a smartphone selling from €1,249, only €220 less than the S25 Ultra.
Another question arises from the battery capacity, which is only 3,900 mAh. Is this size enough to offer battery life that meets expectations? We doubt it, but our full smartphone review will tell us more. In any case, we have the feeling of a mobile phone that's stuck between two stools, torn between a design aimed at the very high-end and innovation and a technical sheet that can seem a little disappointing on certain points.
