After years of hardware stagnation, Samsung could upgrade the Galaxy S26's camera sensor.

The Galaxy S26 could finally take a real leap forward in photography

The Galaxy S25 is a good camera phone, but it must be admitted that its main camera sensor is starting to get old: it's the same Isocell GN3 already present on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23. The Isocell GN3 itself was very similar to the Isocell GN5 on the Galaxy S22, aside from the inclusion of better autofocus. In short, the camera experience on Samsung's high-end compact phone has changed little in recent years, although changes to the software and chip should also be taken into account when judging a device's photo quality.

With the Galaxy S26, we could finally see a leap forward in this model's most important lens. According to information from Galaxy Club, the manufacturer is planning to equip it with a brand new camera sensor. It would still be an Isocell GN, which has not yet been officially announced by Samsung.

Another 50 MP sensor for the Galaxy S26

The source shares few technical details about this sensor. It would not be on the definition that it would stand out, since it would remain at 50 MP, as is already the case currently. The size of the sensor, that of the pixels, the aperture or the focal length are not specified, so we do not know which element will be improved compared to the Isocell GN3. There is also nothing to get our teeth into regarding the arrival of new technologies or features.

We will therefore have to wait for an official communication from Samsung or a more precise leak before knowing more. It is not uncommon for the company to announce its new photo sensors before their integration into its own smartphones, so we should hear about it before the release of the Galaxy S26. Remember that, just like with its screens, Samsung also supplies its optics to other mobile manufacturers. It's not impossible that we'll see this component in action on another device before the Galaxy S26.
