The Last of Us 3? Naughty Dog Finally Confirms a Surprise Game

We didn't really know what was going on at Naughty Dog until now, aside from the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the next big game from Neil Druckmann's studio. Rumors have been circulating for a while about another game, The Last of Us 3 or Uncharted 5, but nothing had been confirmed so far. But that was before Naughty Dog's biggest name, Druckmann himself, spoke out.

A new game announced, a sequel to The Last of Us?

The developer and showrunner in his spare time spoke during a podcast for Press X recently, during which he revealed an open secret. Yes, it's official, Naughty Dog is indeed developing another game alongside Intergalactic. When asked how he divides his time, he bluntly declares that he's stimulated by all the projects he has in progress. Whether it's The Last of Us series, Intergalactic, or "this other game in development" about which we still know nothing at all.

From what is said, and this time it's not official, Shaun Escayg would be directing. An important face of the studio having also worked on TLOU and Uncharted. As a result, everyone is now wondering if this would be the beginning of The Last of Us 3, or a sequel to Uncharted. The first option would obviously be to be avoided, The Last of Us 3 would not be for any time soon.

An Uncharted perhaps?

Some fans are already thinking about the possibility of a new Uncharted. The last episode to date dates back to 2016 with Uncharted 4, if we put aside its spin-off Lost Legacy. While Nathan will certainly have retired by now, we could quite imagine taking over with his daughter, Cassie, who already seems to have a taste for adventure too. For the moment, it's completely unclear, Neil Druckmann has simply said that he is a producer on this new project, so he would only be there as an advisor, but would not be more involved.

He already has a lot on his plate with Intergalactic. As a reminder, Druckmann had already stated that the studio was looking into several new single-player games, licenses that could be something other than The Last of Us and Uncharted. Finally, what is confirmed here is that the development of a new surprise single-player game is in full swing, and that's more than enough to make us want to know more.
