The Play Store tells you everything about apps thanks to this new Gemini feature

The Play Store tells you everything about apps thanks to this new Gemini feature

The Play Store continues its profound transformation. A new feature has just appeared on certain app pages. It could well become indispensable for those who are tired of wasting time trying to understand what they are installing.

The Google Play Store is nothing like it was a year ago. In twelve months, nearly two million apps have been removed. This major cleanup, launched by Google in 2024, aimed to make the platform more reliable. Apps deemed misleading, useless, or lacking in content have been removed. The goal is to provide a cleaner, more secure, and more useful space for Android users. In the same spirit of making navigation clearer, Google is quietly rolling out a new feature directly in the Play Store. Spotted by Android Authority in version 46.1.39-31, it is called "Ask Play about this app". This new feature allows users to ask specific questions about an app before downloading it, such as "How does it work?" or "Is there a paid subscription?".

Google integrates Gemini to answer your questions about Play Store apps Store

Just like in Google Drive, where Gemini can now summarize the content of a video for you without watching it, this AI is used here to clarify what an app does before it's even installed. Once available, the feature appears just below the "Install" button. The user can type a question or choose from those offered. The answers are displayed in a few seconds, automatically generated, to indicate, for example, whether the app contains in-app purchases or how to access certain functions.

The feature is not yet available on all apps. Some popular apps, including Google's own like YouTube or Search, are not yet compatible. And as with any AI-based tool, some answers may lack precision. But despite these limitations, this innovation could save precious time for anyone who hesitates before installing an app. It's another step towards a smarter Play Store, capable of guiding users, rather than simply listing apps.
