Microsoft continues to expand its Copilot+ PC lineup with the announcement of the new 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro. These laptops are being touted as the fastest and smartest ever made by the Redmond-based company. Like all devices in the Copilot+ PC lineup, launching in May 2024, the new Surfaces feature Neural Processing Units (NPUs) integrated into their processors to deliver advanced AI experiences.
13-inch Surface Laptop: Thin, Powerful, and Endurable
Designated as the thinnest and lightest Surface Laptop to date, the 13-inch model is designed for portability and performance. Its sleek, premium anodized aluminum chassis is available in three colors: Ocean, Purple, and Platinum.
Powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor with an integrated 45-TOPS NPU, this new Surface Laptop is touted as being 50% faster than the Surface Laptop 5. It also promises exceptional battery life, the longest ever achieved by a Surface model, with up to 23 hours of video playback and 16 hours of active web browsing. Fast charging is via USB-C.
Microsoft adds a 13-inch Full HD touchscreen with thin bezels, an AI-enhanced camera (Auto Video HDR, noise reduction), and a comfortable keyboard with a dedicated Copilot key. A fingerprint reader and a customizable touchpad complete the package.
The manufacturer is also focusing on sustainability, integrating 100% recycled cobalt into the battery and 100% recycled rare earths into the magnets.
The 13-inch Surface Laptop will be available in France from June 10, 2025, starting at 1,099 euros.
Surface Pro 12-inch: 2-in-1 versatility in a refined style
The new Surface Pro 12-inch is positioned as the thinnest and lightest Copilot+ PC in the range. Maintaining its versatile 2-in-1 format, it combines the power of a laptop with the portability of a tablet thanks to an integrated tilting stand and a detachable keyboard.
Weighing 680 grams, it features the same Snapdragon X Plus processor with a 45 TOPS NPU as the Laptop, with an announced battery life of one day (up to 16 hours of video, 12 hours of browsing). Its 12-inch LCD touchscreen offers a resolution of 2196 x 1464 pixels and can reach a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
A Surface Slim Pen (sold separately) attaches and charges magnetically on the back. The new keyboard (sold separately) has been improved for stable and quiet typing, with a comfortable wrist rest, backlit keys, and a Copilot button.
On the environmental front, Surface Pro incorporates 82.9% recycled materials in its chassis and is the first Pro model to contain 100% recycled cobalt in its battery. Component repairability is also facilitated.
The new 12-inch Surface Pro will also be available in France from June 10, 2025, with a starting price of 979 euros. The keyboard and stylus are sold separately.
These announcements come as Microsoft encourages Windows 10 users to switch to new Copilot+ PCs, like these Surface Laptop 13 and Surface Pro 12.
