The iPad lacks many third-party apps, even though they are among the most popular on the market. The tablet should soon welcome WhatsApp, while waiting for Instagram.

This app is one of the most downloaded in the world and it finally arrives on iPad

The availability of a WhatsApp app for iPad is an old chestnut that resurfaces from time to time. It might seem unlikely that one of the world's most downloaded and used apps isn't yet available on a product as mainstream as the iPad, but so far, Meta hasn't seen fit to make the effort to bring its service to Apple's tablet. But that's about to change.

On X (Twitter), the official WhatsApp account responded to a post stating "they should add WhatsApp to iPad" with a wide-eyed emoji that leaves little room for interpretation. It's almost official: a WhatsApp app compatible with the iPad should be coming soon.

WhatsApp on iPad, followed by Instagram?

A beta version of WhatsApp for iPad has been available via TestFlight for just under two years. At the time, it was thought that a stable version for all users, downloadable from the App Store, would soon be released. But for many months, we didn't really have any concrete news about the application, so much so that one could even wonder if the project wasn't starting to lose momentum.

A long time Shunned by third-party app developers, the iPad seems to be experiencing a resurgence of interest lately. A Snapchat app was launched on it last year. And in addition to WhatsApp, Meta reportedly aims to make Instagram compatible with iPadOS in the future.

Design work is required to port an app designed for the iPhone to the iPad, because the display surface is different. It's not just a matter of scaling the interface; it's also necessary to use this extra space in a practical and optimized way. Over the years, WhatsApp and Instagram have established themselves as essential platforms for professionals. The iPad, too, has become much more than an entertainment tool. Bringing these software programs together with this hardware seems perfectly logical.
