The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is moving forward

Sequels to acclaimed titles and remakes of classics are the norm in today's video game industry. Rising game development costs and the profitability of remakes, combined with investor reluctance and changing player behavior, have defined this era. It is in this vein that CD Projekt is working in parallel on The Witcher IV and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, called Project Orion.

A project that is now entering a new stage, since the Polish studio has just announced that this sequel is officially entering its pre-production phase. After conceptualizing the universe, the developers are working on building the foundations, namely the creation of a game design, a narrative structure, technical and narrative documents (Narrative Design), prototyping, and even organizing and planning production.

A release within five years

The studio announces that 96 of the 730 developers are currently working on this "Cyberpunk 2". The majority of the team is working on The Witcher 4. So let's not expect a release anytime soon. Since the game isn't even in development, it will take between four and five years before it arrives on our next-gen consoles. This is what the studio has confirmed, mentioning 2030 or even 2031. Once the fourth installment of the fantasy saga adapted from the books by Andrzej Sapkowski is released, we imagine that everyone will focus almost exclusively on Cyberpunk 2.

In this regard, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk universe, revealed that a whole new city will be explored by players. A city inspired by a dystopian Chicago. "It doesn't look like Blade Runner, but more like a Chicago gone wrong."

So we'll have to be patient before Cyberpunk 2 hits our shelves. For those who haven't played it yet, there's still time to continue the adventure in Night City with the Phantom Liberty DLC. CD Projekt recently revealed that the expansion has sold over 10 million copies. Nintendo players will soon be able to roam the streets of the dystopian city too, as Cyberpunk 2077 - Ultimate Edition will be released at the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
