Are we finally just days away from getting a first glimpse of the next installment in the Tomb Raider saga? For several months, even years, now, Lara Croft has been due to return in a new trilogy. Unfortunately, the latest news wasn't necessarily good, as we learned in March that Crystal Dynamics had just laid off many employees.
Yet, against all odds, many rumors are rather positive and seem to confirm that the announcement of the next Tomb Raider would be imminent and even possible during the Summer Game Fest at the beginning of June.
Today, new job offers are giving fans hope.
Tomb Raider: a game at the end of development and in the optimization phase?
According to the latest job offers from Crystal Dynamics, the studio is looking for a Senior Level Designer, whose mission would be to lead "strike teams", namely small temporary teams often set up to optimize and correct the last details of a game and its various mechanics just before its release. In other words, this is clearly a position for the end of a title's development.
The particularity is that the offer specifies that it concerns a third-person action and adventure game requiring puzzle-solving. Knowing that Crystal Dynamics is currently developing the next Tomb Raider (still unrevealed) and the next Perfect Dark (an FPS game), this offer can only concern the next adventures of Lara Croft, or an unannounced game already in the final stages of development. Given that Crystal Dynamics hasn't been in the best of shape in recent months, this remains unlikely.
The last time the Tomb Raider project was officially discussed was in August 2024. At that time, Christoph Hartmann, the head of Amazon Games, confirmed that development of the next Tomb Raider was progressing at its own pace. Remember that this next installment is a collaboration between Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics.
A few days later, in September 2024, job offers from the studio suggested that marketing and communications were in the works. More than ever, everything seems to indicate that the new Tomb Raider should be announced soon. Fingers crossed.
