Crystal Dynamics definitely likes to play with the hearts of Tomb Raider fans. We were talking about it just the day before yesterday, and players have been eagerly awaiting the return of Lara Croft's adventures for three years now. While we've certainly had some good moments of nostalgia thanks to the remasters, what we're really waiting for is the real next installment. An installment that continues to be terribly desired while yet another side project has just been announced.
A new crossover for Tomb Raider
Indeed, while we can't return to explore the world with her, it's through a crossover with the game Pinball FX that fans will be able to rediscover the beautiful adventurer. The pinball game, known for its numerous partnerships, will welcome two new boards in Tomb Raider colors: "The Adventures of Lara Croft" and "The Secrets of Croft Manor." Of course, each of them then offers us a multitude of references to the universe of the franchise. "Each board tells a story that makes it unique", explains Zen Studios, the creator of the game.
And this is perhaps the most interesting element to remember from this collaboration. Because as we know, Crystal Dynamics now has a project to unify the two timelines of the series, in order to offer the best of both worlds between the pre-reboot period and the post-reboot period. And this seems to be felt through this crossover which, beyond the appearance of Lara inherited from one of the latest artworks, multiplies the references to all the games of the saga. Okay, it's little consolation as it stands, but we're doing what we can.
Lara's real return now imminent?
Note, for pinball enthusiasts and die-hard Lara Croft fans, that the Tomb Raider x Pinball FX crossover will be released on June 19th on all platforms. For the rest of us, we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that the next installment is announced very soon. An announcement that, with a bit of luck, could come during the Summer Game Fest if recent rumors are to be believed. And don't forget that in the meantime, you can always console yourself with the arrival of the physical versions of Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered.
