Today, Siri faces many difficulties caused by a major delay compared to the competition. And this, without forgetting the failure of its new version powered by AI, which was delayed from iOS 18 to iOS 19.
But that's not all, because the European Union has just implemented a measure aimed at eliminating the monopoly exercised by Siri within it and which is contrary to the DMA. And it was through Bloomberg that this was highlighted, with a strong desire to replace this AI with other voice assistants in the near future.
Will Siri be replaced in Europe?
While Apple had its glory days on the Old Continent, that time now seems over. Indeed, its monopoly is leading to its downfall, and measures are being put in place to balance the market in the near future.
Therefore, according to Mark Gurman, Apple should add a setting allowing you to define a voice assistant other than Siri on iPhone. But that's not all, because this will also be the case for your iPad and Mac.
This will allow the competition to establish itself even more comfortably in the AI market and benefit from a larger customer base. And it's with some logic that we can mention ChatGPT, which can now access your OneDrive and SharePoint folders, or even Perplexity and Google Gemini.
It must be said that these AI software programs have a considerable lead over Siri. And their integration could prove beneficial for millions of users in Europe.
A bleak future for Siri?
This news heralds a rather bleak future for Apple and its voice assistant Siri on our continent. It must be said that delays are piling up in the face of competition, as is the case with its AI-boosted version, which has been pushed back by several months.
And that's not all, because the Apple brand had already made efforts to open its ecosystem to other companies, particularly those linked to the Digital Market Act (DMA). However, this was deemed insufficient in the eyes of the European Commission, which fined Apple €500 million.
Consequently, the American giant will have to find solutions fairly quickly to avoid losing its Siri assistant to other AIs on the market. And this, without forgetting that this software could be merged with Gemini before the end of 2025.
