Twitch to fill one of its biggest gaps in 2025

The undisputed leader in live streaming for several years, Twitch has established itself as THE go-to source for content creators, video game fans, and certain major events. Whether you like it or not, this dominant position has earned Twitch a very special status among consumers. Every error, omission, or flaw is far more notable and criticized than for other platforms. For years, one absence has also continued to raise eyebrows.

This refers to the inability to rewind during a live stream. Unlike YouTube or Facebook Live, Amazon's platform does not offer real live stream feedback, a feature that has become almost standard elsewhere. This shortcoming is all the more visible given that Twitch reigns supreme in the sector. But that could soon change.

An announcement in the coming weeks?

According to information shared by Zach Bussey, a well-known figure in the Twitch sphere, the platform is currently testing this long-awaited feature. He claims that the official announcement could be made at TwitchCon Europe 2025, which will be held in Rotterdam from May 31 to June 2. The event, which has become a must-attend event for fans and content creators, will feature panels, community meetings, competitions, and of course, some juicy announcements about the future of the platform.

Last year, for example, the CEO shared the complete redesign of the mobile app and offered a sneak peek to visitors on site. We should therefore learn a little more during the opening night of the show.

No more VOD hassle

Live rewind, if confirmed, would represent a considerable leap in user experience. No more frustration of missing the key moment of a live stream, the start of a speedrun, or a decisive action in an eSports match. Today, missing a moment means either waiting for the replay to go live (when it is available) or resigning yourself.

Depending on the creators and the type of broadcast, VODs are sometimes not available on Twitch directly, and few export their work to another, more forgiving platform. And when you know the vagaries of VOD on Twitch – automatic deletion, poorly indexed archives, availability issues – it's easy to understand why this option could be a game-changer.

Live rewind would be a real convenience for viewers, but also a competitive advantage for Twitch. In a context where YouTube is strengthening its live offering and attracting more and more streamers, catching up on this delay would be a strategic decision.
