This fall, Max wants to thrill its subscribers. While The Last of Us is about to bow out and the new series Game of Thrones has been delayed, the platform hopes to make money with the world of It. It must be said that Andy Muschietti's saga was one of the biggest horror hits in cinema at the end of the 2010s. A reputation that the Warner Bros. subsidiary wants to capitalize on to create a new series acclaimed by critics and audiences. Horror translates particularly well into serial format; the first images are rather reassuring.
Welcome to Derry, from its original title, takes place in the 1960s. For some time now, strange events have been taking place in the small town of Derry. Teenagers will investigate and discover who is behind these disappearances. They don't know it yet, but they are about to come face to face with the scariest clown in pop culture. Pennywise is back, and he could well give Max subscribers nightmares. The series promises to return to the antagonist's origins... to return "where it all began." To develop this spin-off series, Max is counting on the creators of the horror saga's success. Andy Muschietti is in charge of production and direction. He works closely with Brad Caleb Kane, recurring writer for Black Sails and Tokyo Vice. He acts here as showrunner.
In front of the camera, viewers can look forward to seeing the latest Pennywise actor. Bill Skarsgård returns to the killer clown's costume and makeup alongside a new generation of teenagers. He hadn't played the character imagined by Stephen King since the last installment of the saga in 2019. On the adult side, we'll have to count on Jovan Adepo, James Remar, Joshua Odjick, and Madeleine Stowe.
The date is therefore set for next fall on Max. In the meantime, the platform promises a real trailer tomorrow on social media. For viewers, it will be an opportunity to learn more about the storytelling and its challenges. Will Welcome to Derry find a place of choice in the shelves of horror series not to be missed? The answer in a few months.
