Can't agree on what music to listen to when you're with friends or family? YouTube is introducing a voting feature for shared playlists. Everyone will have their say!

What music are we listening to? YouTube is introducing a voting system to avoid arguments between friends.

YouTube has announced several new features and improvements coming to the platform. This is the case, for example, with the new mini-player for Android, which we already told you about. Another cool feature coming is a voting system for shared playlists, which already allowed you to create playlists for groups of people, each of whom could contribute their own songs.

The idea now goes even further. Each user will be able to vote positively or negatively for each song in the shared playlist, which will influence its place in the queue. A popular song will therefore be played faster, while those that are not popular will be relegated to the back of the queue.

The dictatorship of music choice is over

At parties with friends or family, we can imagine how fun it will be to try to convince other people to vote for or against a particular song. The voting system provides a well-thought-out alternative to shuffle playback or the dictatorship of whoever has access to the PC or smartphone connected to the speaker.

To use this feature, simply create a playlist, set it to “unlisted” or “public,” and then enable the collaboration option. Then share the playlist with your friends and family so they can discover and participate. The administrator can choose to open voting to everyone (a YouTube account is still required), only to people who have been invited, or close voting.

The voting system in shared playlists is currently being rolled out. If you don't have access to it yet, it should be soon, so be patient. You will then be able to decide democratically what music to listen to in the car or at a party with your family and friends.
