If your IT department is ranting in the open space because of a Windows 11 24H2 update, it's probably because of bug 0x80240069. Microsoft admits the problem... but the solution is still elusive.
System administrators using WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) have been facing a persistent bug since April 2025: the update Windows 11 24H2 update fails with error 0x80240069. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue, related to the installation of April security patches (KB5055528), which prevents the download of the new version of the system. Only business environments are affected; home users are spared this technical hassle.
According to the Windows Health Dashboard, the update service (wuauserv) suddenly crashes during the process, displaying an error message followed by an unexpected termination. As a result, it is impossible for companies to deploy the 24H2 version via WSUS, a crucial tool for managing updates centrally.

A headache for professionals, Microsoft in diagnostic mode
The bug occurs specifically on machines running Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 that have received the April 2025 updates. The same observation is made by users of SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager), according to online feedback. Microsoft explains that the 24H2 download simply won't start, leaving IT teams without an official workaround.
The firm says it's "actively investigating" and promises further information. In the meantime, the Reddit forums and the Microsoft community site are full of frustrated testimonies. Some administrators mention manual repair attempts, without success.
This blockage comes in a transition context: Microsoft had announced the deprecation of WSUS in 2024, while maintaining its support. A decision that seems to weigh on the stability of the tool. The company had already postponed the removal of certain features several times, in the face of negative customer feedback.
One reassuring point remains: individuals are not affected. The 24H2 update works normally outside of corporate networks. But for professionals, the wait promises to be long... and nervous. Especially since Microsoft has precedents when it comes to forced updates, such as the one for Windows Server 2025 imposed on some users in 2024. Without a fix, businesses have no choice but to wait.
