XL Delivery: leboncoin finally tackles (very) bulky items

The French classifieds site is expanding its offering with a new XL delivery option, designed for bulky products, thanks to a partnership with Relais Colis. This is a strategic development for the platform, which aims to make the circular economy even more accessible.

A concrete response to a strong demand

Until now, site users were limited to sending packages weighing a maximum of 30 kg. From now on, items up to 130 kg or very bulky items can be shipped throughout France, via more than 1,300 dedicated relay points. The entry fee is set at €19.49, a relatively reasonable price for a service of this type.

This new offer meets a real demand: more than one in four French people are considering buying second-hand furniture, according to a Codifab/IPEA study. And on the site's user side, 80% say they are interested in this feature, which could well boost sales in certain categories historically hampered by logistics.

8 million ads affected from the start

With this XL delivery, 6 million furniture ads (sofas, wardrobes, beds, sideboards, etc.) and 2 million household appliance ads are already eligible. Other categories could follow in the coming months.

In terms of prices, sofa ads display a median price under €200, beds around €80, and wardrobes around €100. Suffice it to say that the promise of savings compared to new items remains very real. And it's no coincidence that 1 in 2 purchases made on leboncoin replaces a new purchase, according to the platform's 2024 impact report.

With this XL delivery, leboncoin stands out from its competitors. It becomes the only second-hand player to offer a secure payment solution coupled with large-volume delivery, accessible throughout France.

From hand delivery to tracked shipping, including lockers, traditional relay points, and now Relais Colis Max and Drive, leboncoin is transforming into a true logistics marketplace, capable of absorbing the constraints of the circular economy on a large scale.

"With XL delivery, we are removing a major obstacle: logistics. From now on, the French can expand their search for bulky or heavy goods to all of France, with complete peace of mind," explains Antoine Jouteau, CEO of leboncoin. A statement that sounds like a stated ambition: to make second-hand goods as accessible as new goods.

An economic lever

Behind this logistical innovation also lies an economic reality: 99% of buyers on leboncoin use the site for reasons related to their purchasing power, an increase compared to 2022. On average, a seller earns €294 on their sales, while a buyer saves €257 per transaction. Add to that an average of 1.5 billion furniture ad views per month, and you have a huge commercial lever, now reinforced by a delivery solution tailored for large volumes.
