You will no longer have to call Max “Max” this summer, here is the new name to remember (you already know it)

The streaming platform Max announced on 𝕏 that it will be changing its brand name this summer. A change that looks like an ellipsis, the brand giving the impression of having lost visibility with the removal of HBO in front of the name “Max”.

You're going to have to get used to it... or rather, you already are. The streaming platform Max announced on 𝕏 the upcoming change of its name. An announcement that feels like déjà vu, and for good reason: the service had already changed its original name, HBO Max, to simply “Max” authorized in 2022.

Since then, however, the name Max had actually only been changed in certain markets, including France. Several other European countries, notably the Netherlands, have kept the old name until now. However, it seems that the company has finally realized that the “Max” brand was causing the service to lose notoriety.

The new name chosen by HBO is actually nothing new

It must be said that the name HBO, already well known to series fans thanks to the excellence of many of its productions, is already a very strong brand in itself. Even though “Max” seems more like a more ordinary suffix to differentiate an offering proposed by the studios. In a context of particularly intense competition in the sector, it's these small details that can make a real difference.

Especially when we see that Max has recently taken other measures to boost its profitability, such as a more intense fight against account sharing. This undoubtedly explains the ellipsis that characterizes the service's decision to change its name again. Since, as you will have understood, the new name is more of a throwback than a real invention.

As we can see in the screenshot taken by the Screen Rant account 𝕏, Max will become HBO Max again this summer. The brand itself even uses a touch of humor to mock this decision in its communications. Indeed, the visual announcing the name change reads: "Same app. Sort of a new name. It's the plot twist everyone's been waiting for: Max is becoming HBO Max! It's coming to your home this summer."
