YouTube presents a shower of new features for its TV interface

The YouTube experience on TV is undergoing a major change. The platform is rolling out a series of new features to simplify navigation and make content more accessible. An update that should please those who watch YouTube on the big screen.

YouTube is reorganizing its content on connected TVs and consoles

This is the main new feature of this quarterly update: YouTube is introducing five new "shelves" (or shelves, in the language of Shakespeare) on its TV app. The goal here is to better organize content according to your habits.

  • «Resume your searches» where you left them, highlighting your last three requests;
  • Listen Again” the tracks you have already listened to and liked;
  • Live Performances, Remixes and Covers”: here, YouTube highlights alternative versions of popular tracks;
  • Flagship Channels with Direct Access” : this section is for subscribers of large channels, with quick access to the most recent content.
  • «Your most-watched channels», so you don't miss anything from your favorite creators.

This will help you sort through the many channels you can consult and avoid getting lost in the infinite content available on the platform.

A new way to navigate and additional options

Ergonomics is good, but YouTube is also introducing new features. Shorts are now separated from long videos on the home page and in the "Subscriptions" tab. Another notable addition: a "Podcasts" tab appears in the library, to more easily find the shows you regularly follow.

YouTube is also expanding its "loop" function, which now allows you to repeat not only playlists, but also all on-demand videos. Finally, rich previews are arriving on the channel, subscription, and theme pages, to help you decide faster what to watch. These are welcome changes at a time when YouTube is viewed more on TVs than on mobile.
