Ten years after the debut of Dragon Ball Super, a certain project is reportedly in the works from the publisher behind the long-running manga created in 1984 by Akira Toriyama. The announcement is even imminent. The date of June 20th is already marked in the calendars of fans of the franchise.
What's next for Dragon Ball Super after DAIMA?
And yes, it will soon be 10 years since the first chapter of Dragon Ball Super was released. In 2015, the manga following Dragon Ball Z opened with the Battle of Gods arc, where Goku faced off against Beerus on Kaio's planet. Fans have been waiting for a sequel to Toyotaro's project ever since. It must be said that both the manga artist and publisher Shueisha have been keeping a low profile regarding a possible sequel. And it's not the broadcast of Dragon Ball DAIMA at the end of 2024 that will have satisfied the fanbase.
A brand new project announced in honor of the 10th anniversary of Dragon Ball Super
But since the 10th anniversary of "DBS" is on the horizon, on June 20, 2025, a big announcement will be made. V-Jump magazine, which published the manga chapters, and the publisher revealed in the latest issue of the show "Weekly Dragon Ball News" that a "certain project" will be announced in the next issue of V-Jump, which will be released on June 20th.
To celebrate the anniversary, a new illustration was created by Toyotaro. As a symbol, it reveals Goku in his Ultra Instinct form with Gohan Beast. Father and son are depicted launching a Kamehameha. The illustration will also be available as a poster in the June monthly issue.
So what can we expect from this mysterious project? It could well be just a one-shot chapter to celebrate 10 years of Dragon Ball Super. Optimists are talking about a resumption of the manga with a new arc. Unless it's a completely new story, like Dragon Ball DAIMA, produced for the 40th anniversary of the franchise and in tribute to the late Akira Toriyama. Problem is, Toyotaro has announced that he's working on a completely new manga independent of the Dragon Ball universe.
Furthermore, the show Weekly Dragon Ball News reveals that the June V-Jump should offer fans new information on the video games (a MOBA has already been announced) "DB DAIMA", but also a whole point on merchandising, through goodies and other derivative products.
