Alongside the launch of Android 16, Google is gradually enriching the Android experience for all users with a series of six features for its flagship applications like Google Photos, Google Messages and Google Home, as well as new security and personalization features.
More customization for Google Messages and Gboard
In the Google Messages app, group conversations will become a little more personal. It will be possible to add a personalized icon and name, but also to know which of your contacts use the RCS protocol. Another option to come: temporarily mute notifications from a group, so as not to be disturbed for a given period.
On the keyboard side, Gboard continues to play the creativity card. New Emoji Kitchen stickers are coming, mixing two emojis to create fun combinations (here the muscle emoji and the turtle emoji). The idea is to enrich your messages with more original visuals, without having to go through other apps.
A new image editor for Google Photos
The new design of the Google Photos image editor promises better handling, with AI-based suggestions, tools at your fingertips, and the ability to transform an image according to a text description via the "Reimagine" function. "Auto-framing" will help you shrink or expand a scene.
Personalized shortcuts for Google Home and a new personal security option
In the Google Home app, you'll soon be able to create personalized shortcuts based on the devices you use. A security camera can be accessed from your TV, while thermostat control will appear on your Wear OS watch. This will simplify the management of your connected home.
The latest improvement concerns the "Situation Control" function of Google's "Security" application, which becomes more flexible. It already allows you to send an alert to your loved ones if you don't respond after going out alone. Soon, you will be able to extend the delay with a simple gesture (on your phone or watch) without having to create a new alert. A useful development in case of an unforeseen break or detour that would extend your outing.
