While we wait to see what Activision has in store for the next Call of Duty, which should be announced soon, Black Ops 6 continues to make progress with updates. Launched last week, Season 4 of the game marked the arrival of a series of new content, such as new maps, additional weapons and new game modes. But in the middle of all this great stuff, a detail has slipped in that players are not happy about at all.
Ads are coming to Call of Duty Black Ops 6
Indeed, since the launch of Season 4, many Internet users have noticed that Black Ops 6 has introduced ads for paid bundles directly into the game menus. So, whether you are selecting your weapons or looking at what is in the current events tab, you will be treated to a small insert intended to remind you that it is possible to purchase skins and other additional content directly in the game's store. With real money, then.
And inevitably, that was all it took for players to express their dissatisfaction. One reason: the fact that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is a premium game and that, precisely, having paid up to €80 to get it should guarantee an experience free of ads of this kind. Because as it stands, many people share their impression of dealing with a mobile game, or even a free-to-play game like Call of Duty Warzone, where the presence of ads would be more justified due to the fact that the title is free.
Activision has not yet responded to this issue
As of this writing, neither Activision, Treyarch, nor Raven Software have yet responded to the growing controversy on social media. That said, this is far from the first time a publisher has viciously tried to introduce ads into its premium games. A few years ago, 2K was criticized for the same reason with NBA 2K21, which quickly led to its backtracking. It remains to be seen whether Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will receive the same treatment, or if ads are destined to become an integral part of the experience.
