Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday? Chris Evans responds

Everyone wants in. As Marvel prepares to reunite its most iconic characters, part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday remains a mystery. Kevin Feige has said that the names mentioned during his interminable livestream won't be the only ones summoned to face Doom on the big screen. The Russo brothers' film is set to be the biggest Avengers movie ever made, so it should boast an impressive cast of characters. After the return of Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr., some viewers are finding themselves dreaming of a reunion of the old guard. After all, nothing is impossible with the multiverse. Chris Evans' name has been circulating for a long time, without anything ever being made official.

In the MCU, Captain America is supposed to have retired after years of loyal service. He used the time machine to return to Peggy Carter and live in anonymity. In the middle of a promotional tour for The Materialist, a film in which he stars opposite Pedro Pascal, the question of a potential return to the big screen was obviously posed to the actor who played Steve Rogers. Will the original Captain America be part of the trip? Not according to Evans' statements. He explains to ScreenRant that the prospect of seeing his colleagues reunited on a film set makes him nostalgic. He emphasizes his own absence, confirming that neither Captain America nor any of his variants will be invited. No Captain America, really? As Kevin Feige has repeatedly stated, the entire cast of Avengers: Doomsday has not been shared. The studio boss promises plenty of surprises in December 2026, as this kind of proposal requires. The firm also has a reputation for imposing substantial non-disclosure agreements on its talents, ensuring that no central plot elements of a film are disclosed before its release. Chris Evans could thus be bluffing... or saving his surprise return for Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set for a December 2027 theatrical release. After all, the first version of Secret Wars featured the bearer of the shield. In the meantime, the title remains in the hands of Sam Wilson. Since Avengers: Endgame and especially the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, Steve Rogers' former protégé has had the heavy responsibility of carrying the Star-Spangled Banner and confronting the organizations that threaten the United States. In Brave New World, released this year, he was seen considering forming a new team of superheroes to face a threat from elsewhere. In Thunderbolts*, this team was mentioned without the post-credits scene going into detail.

We'll have to wait until Christmas 2026 to find out for sure. Fantastic Four: First Steps should focus on introducing the franchise's new big villain: Victor Doom. The character is closely linked to Reed Richards and his family, and we can imagine him being introduced in the guise of Robert Downey Jr. in a post-credits scene on July 23rd.
