The rollout of Android 16 has begun, but one of the main new features of this version is not yet available. This is the brand new Material 3 Expressive design, which will bring a breath of fresh air to the interface of Google's mobile operating system. Material 3 Expressive is expected with Android 16 QPR1 next September. This new visual identity will be found both on the Pixel overlay and in applications across the Google ecosystem. Screenshots of the new Pixel camera running Material 3 Expressive have already been shared.

This time, it's the Play Store that's revealed in a different light. A Telegram user named Leontylerz had early access to it and shared an image of the new interface. Android Authority compared it with the current Play Store to give us a better idea of the changes made.

As you can see from the visuals below, the Search tab of the app store has changed a lot. The icons for each category of games and apps are larger and become colorful. They look like emojis, which is a radical contrast to their previous minimalist appearance. They are much easier to identify this way. The text has been made bold so as not to be too relegated to the background.

The boxes containing each category are closer together, almost forming a table. Here again, the philosophy contrasts with what was usual. Until now, we had the impression that a category was part of a bubble. This is no longer the case here, especially since we've lost some of the roundness to find more straight lines and angles.

This new version of the Play Store was spotted on version 46.5.19. It seems that its deployment is managed server-side, which indicates that there is no manipulation to force the switch to this redesigned interface.
