Forget myCanal, it's now called App Canal+! For the occasion, it's undergoing a major overhaul of its interface and browsing experience.
The myCanal app as we know it is retiring. The French audiovisual group is changing just about everything, starting with the name of its service. From now on, it's simply called the “App Canal+”. However, you won't need to reinstall a new app on your devices if you already had myCanal, which will be moved to the new platform via an update.
Canal+ announces that this app benefits from a brand new player. This one “offers a smoother, more readable, more intuitive experience, optimized to adapt to all screens,” promises the company. This is good news for subscribers, as the old version was, admittedly, not exactly a model of ergonomics compared to other video streaming services.
The Canal+ App shakes up its interface and touchscreen controls
The Canal+ App “refocuses navigation on useful features and improves the understanding, position, and size of each icon,” the group explains in a press release. Navigation on touchscreens has also been redesigned for greater comfort and simplified access to content. “Zooming, turning the volume up or down, adjusting the brightness, or even controlling the screen rotation are now done with a simple movement on the screen,” we learned. It was about time. In addition, a new timeline can be invoked by a long press on the screen.
Four new features are announced to enrich the live experience via the app:
- A new zapping inspired by social networks: swipe to change channels;
- Direct access to the channel's current, upcoming, and past programs;
- Information about the current program accessible directly on the screen;
- Direct access to all episodes of the series.
Canal+ reminds us that its application is available on the Apple Vision Pro, and that an immersive sports documentary designed especially for this device will be released next September. Produced in collaboration with Apple and MotoGP, it will immerse us in Johann Zarco's historic victory at the 2025 French Grand Prix. This will be the first time in the world that this type of content will be offered for the mixed reality headset.
